One of my favorite scenes in Woodie Allen’s Annie Hall occurs when\u00c2\u00a0Allen’s character, Alvy,\u00c2\u00a0is listening to someone in line behind him at the movies expound on Marshall McLuhan’s work.\u00c2\u00a0 Alvy disagrees with the man and to settle the point,\u00c2\u00a0pulls McLuhan himself from behind a\u00c2\u00a0movie\u00c2\u00a0cardboard cut-out.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0McLuhan\u00c2\u00a0informs\u00c2\u00a0the man that the man’s interpretation is wrong.\u00c2\u00a0 Wouldn’t it be great if we could always go right to the source?\u00c2\u00a0 Well, sometimes we forget that we can.<\/p>\n
I\u00c2\u00a0have been in\u00c2\u00a0several meetings\u00c2\u00a0with marketers who have been debating the motivations,\u00c2\u00a0actions, desires, etc.\u00c2\u00a0of their customers, and I\u00c2\u00a0am continually suprised in how many situations\u00c2\u00a0conclusions\u00c2\u00a0are reached and judgements made without any actual data, information, or feedback\u00c2\u00a0from the customers themselves.<\/p>\n
There isn’t any reason not to be talking to and getting feedback directly from our customers as\u00c2\u00a0there are a variety of\u00c2\u00a0 approaches that suit all different budget levels.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Online surveys, for example, are an inexpensive and easy way to gather insights that will help better understand the needs and motivations of your customers.\u00c2\u00a0 Sometimes, you find that your assumptions were correct and you feel more comfortable acting on them.\u00c2\u00a0 However, in other situations, you discover that you were wrong or you learn something completely new.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
You will be surprised at how many of your customers\u00c2\u00a0are willing to provide their opinion – all you have to do is ask.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
